A Princess Cake For Our Little Princess.

My darling daughter wanted a princess cake  and she wanted Princess Ariel because she had seen me do one before for a friend's daughter but I didn't want to repeat the same thing  and wanted to have a different twist on it so Ariel had a swing  to sit on which actually moves and then Frozen was supposed to be released and Princess Elsa and Olaf was a great temptation and it sort of snowballed on from there I ended up making  3 princesses and their friends for her 3rd birthday. Was she happy?......... well she was ecstatic from the expression on her face when she saw the cake....so I was pretty pleased too :-).

Also wanted to push my limits with this cake since it is going to be my last cake for a while ( at least 6 months to rest my hands and hopefully temptation doesn't step in :-)). It did take a while to create from loads of planning , to creating the cake board ( numerous visits to Bunnings the hardware store, to using the driller, hack saw, putting in all the support, ensuring that it is all food safe), to doing the figurines, to setting it up , making the cake and carving and putting it all together. It has been made with butter cake, chocolate cake and red velvet cake, orange flavoured butter crean and chocolate buttercream..

Few hiccups along the way and few things not very happy with..... The party for the family was supposed to have been end of last year but due to unavoidable circumstances was postponed to yesterday. I had real trouble restarting the cake after the X'mas/ New Year break and being sick just after,  only managed to waddle through beginning of last week and somehow managed to finish it, cook and arrange the party . Luckily I have found out that I seem to work better under pressure, I also had most of my figurines ready( Ariel, Jasmine, Elsa, Olaf were done last year but Flounder and Rajah were done last week) and I had so much help with the food and desserts; Thank you so very much, your help is greatly appreciated .

Today I have a splitting headache and my hands are gone, feel like a bulldozer had just driven all over me. Well I guess I will survive and all this for the love of my daughter :-).

Overall pretty pleased with the outcome. Hope you love my creation.  There is also a little video(not full size) to show Princess Ariel on a moving swing,  and princess Jasmine on a flying carpet ( This backfired a bit, initially she was going to be just on one support but I underestimated how back heavy she would be come and had to add another support :-( )......all this handmade my MOI......Hope my technical experimentation and my cake making is worth having a look :-).

Thank you so much all you wonderful people for your awesome support so far.

A Chubby Little Artist Doll.....Ohhhh So messy !!!!

My niece told me what she wanted beginning of last year….. An ART based cake. I thought of a design then a month after I found out a cake designer I admire greatly (who didn’t know anything about what I had thought of ) had just created something similar and hers was awesome. I was happy that I was thinking along the same line but I didn’t want to do my design anymore, wanted to do something different.
That was it I had a design block on this one. Left it, did other cakes, went to Melbourne for a holiday, still didn’t know what to do, Got back from Melbourne, became sick( flu and sinus) still thinking of what to do. Baked the cakes just in case I wouldn’t have enough time. Three days before it was due I sort of had a vague idea and kind of developed on it. Literally after two sleepless nights, working through the day and night and getting frustrated and crying in between (oooops…) because one of the legs was curving and breaking( ‘cos I didn’t allow enough time for it to dry before attaching), had to redo the legs again :-) and the dress was tearing ( tooo hot in Sydney and the fondant was getting too soft), had to redo the dress again!!!. Wasn’t very happy with the detailed finish and the proportions, but didn’t have the time to fix it. Okay … Okay enough of my SOB story boring you to bits ….... :-), this is what I came up with in the end :-)
“A chubby little artist doll being very messy trying to draw and putting paint everywhere, even inside the cake, not being very happy with her drawing and throwing everything she has drawn and holding onto the ones she likes”.
My niece loved it, kept hugging me and thanking me at the party and got an email from her this morning too . That made my day and well worth all my sob story.

She stands about 45cm high with her body made of Vegetarian Chocolate cake and the cushion seat made of  plain butter cake.

Thank you so much for looking and for your wonderful support.

Xmas in Melbourne

Happy New Year everybody  :-). Wish you a wonderful 2014. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

We spend the Christmas in Melbourne. Ended up getting sick when I got back and then I had a cake I needed to do for my niece which I finished yesterday after two sleepless nights (cos I was running short of time). Hence the delay in posting.

While in Melbourne I ended up doing a Santa, a snowman  and trying out a patterned cake for the first time for my nephews. This was all spontaneous and hence I didn't have my tools or my reading glasses at hand so the minute details might be a bit off, forgive me for that.  My sister -in- law thought it will be easier for me to do the snowman instead of Santa but you know me I ended  up doing both ;-). My son thought the snowman needed a yellow scarf and my nephew thought a blue one would be better, hence to make them both happy we have a mixed coloured scarf.

Ended up buying a gingerbread pack from woolies and helped my nephew make it , we had loads of fun with that , he wanted to put lots of lollies on it hence the lollypops, gummies and Twix etc ;-).

Some of my cakes without the dressing

I was asked to show how to make ducks based on a book ' Five little Ducks' by my cousins sister-in-law for her daughters birthday ( which is actually today ). So I ended up trying out the mother duck and she was going to do the baby ones when she makes the cake. So here is what I created ( photos are not that great) Hope you like it. the neck could have been a little longer me thinks.
